Unforgettable Moments at The Better Blog Retreat

The Retreat: A Gathering of Culinary Minds

Back in October, I had the incredible opportunity to join 15 fellow food bloggers for a truly transformative weekend at the Better Blog Retreat. Nestled in the picturesque mountains of Park City, Utah, this event promised to be a unique blend of learning, networking, and relaxation. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this retreat would surpass every expectation we had. It wasn’t just another conference; it was an intimate gathering designed to foster genuine connections and share invaluable insights, away from the typical hustle and bustle. While I could easily fill pages with every delightful detail, allow me to share a curated tour of the most memorable highlights that made this retreat truly special.

Better Blog Retreat house in Park City, Utah - A stunning vacation home for food bloggers.

The Epic Pinon Pines: Our Mountain Sanctuary

Our accommodations for the retreat were nothing short of spectacular. We had all heard whispers that the vacation home would be impressive, but nothing prepared us for the reality of Pinon Pines. This magnificent Park City vacation home, graciously provided by Anthology Destinations, was a true marvel. Imagine a house so grand it has its own poetic name, a private elevator to navigate its multiple levels, and even a secluded tunnel entrance! This wasn’t just a house; it was a luxurious mountain sanctuary designed for ultimate comfort and relaxation.

Pinon Pines itself was absolutely stunning, both inside and out. Despite being just a few minutes’ walk from downtown Park City, its unique access via a private tunnel or ski slopes made it feel like an exclusive retreat high up in the mountains. The views were absolutely breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas that stretched for miles, especially when we were graced with an unexpected, picturesque snowfall on our first day. But what truly amazed me was how, despite its impressive 8,500 square feet of living space, including six luxurious bedrooms with fabulous baths, a vaulted living room with expansive views, a warm dining room, a sauna, a hot tub, a home theater, multiple bars, and countless fireplaces, the house managed to feel incredibly cozy and inviting. Every detail, from the decor to the layout, was meticulously designed to create a warm, welcoming, and home-like atmosphere. We often found ourselves simply wanting to snuggle up, enjoy each other’s company, and linger in its embrace. And so, we did, thoroughly exploring every corner of this magnificent dwelling.

A Symphony of Flavors: The Food Experience

For those who followed along on Instagram during the retreat, it comes as no surprise that the vast majority of our photos were dedicated to the food. And even then, I truly believe our cameras barely did justice to the culinary spectacle that unfolded. The entire weekend was an ongoing, 24/7 gourmet food festival, a gastronomic adventure that was nothing short of unreal.

What made this experience even more extraordinary was that, apart from an incredible first night out at a local whiskey distillery, all our meals were prepared right in our stunning kitchen at Pinon Pines. Kelley, our culinary superstar, masterfully curated a menu featuring original recipes contributed by each of the attending bloggers. This was such a brilliant idea! After years of admiring each other’s food photos online, it was an absolute delight to finally taste so many unique creations, meal after delicious meal. To commemorate this incredible culinary exchange, Heidi designed beautiful retreat cookbooks/notebooks for each of us to take home, filled with all the shared recipes. It was truly amazing.

It would be impossible to describe every single tasty morsel we enjoyed, but if your curiosity is piqued, a quick search of the #bbretreat hashtag on Instagram will undoubtedly leave you hungry and inspired. Just thinking about Heidi’s burrata makes my mouth water even now!

Invaluable Lessons and the Power of Connection

While there are numerous conferences available for food bloggers today, offering a wealth of information, I’ve consistently found that the most profound and important lessons about blogging, small business ownership, and even just managing the inherent stress of this industry, come from conversations held outside formal sessions. It’s in those late-night pajama parties, over shared cups of coffee, and through countless texts and Google chats that genuine connections are forged and truly impactful insights are exchanged.

Having an entire weekend dedicated solely to sitting, talking, and truly listening was an unparalleled treat. It was inspiring to witness the unique strengths, diverse experiences, and valuable lessons each person brought to the table. Even more remarkable was the incredible generosity, openness, patience, and willingness of everyone to share these insights with one another. When bloggers actively support and help each other, it elevates our entire industry, and that is something I deeply cherish.

Undoubtedly, the most significant takeaways from the weekend revolved around the crucial topic of work-life balance. Bloggers, by nature, are an exceptionally hardworking bunch, often navigating a business that operates 24/7 while juggling a multitude of roles. This often leads to a propensity for workaholism, a path I’ve found myself on and off for years. However, I’m frankly tired of the relentless crazy hours. I absolutely adore blogging, but I’ve always maintained that it shouldn’t consume my entire life. Since returning home, I’ve been actively working to implement changes in my priorities, particularly in how I allocate my time. I’m happy to report that these adjustments are (slowly but surely) beginning to make a genuine, much-needed difference. It’s all about baby steps towards a healthier, more sustainable approach.

Relaxation at Better Blog Retreat - Spa treatments and peaceful moments for bloggers.Rest & Relaxation: A Retreat for the Soul

Speaking of how we spend our precious time, I must extend a huge shout-out to our stellar retreat planners Heidi and Maria for thoughtfully incorporating much-needed R&R time into our busy weekend! Oh my goodness, I was already thrilled at the prospect of a few days relaxing in the serene Park City mountains. But in addition to soaking up the gorgeous house and connecting with wonderful friends, we were treated to a delightful surprise: a “spa morning” right in the midst of it all!

The incredible team from Zante Spa arrived to pamper everyone with rejuvenating manicures, luxurious foot massages, and soothing back massages. And let me tell you, they were absolutely amazing. Those fancy foot massages even gave a whole new meaning to “having your feet held to the flame,” in the best possible way! Beyond the spa treatments, the entire atmosphere was designed for relaxation. Having three days of delicious, homemade meals prepared for us was a dream. The sight of snow gently falling on the cedars outside, the warmth of the toasty hot tub, the comfort of plush robes and slippers, and the inviting glow of fireplaces everywhere – even the convenience of an elevator if you preferred not to use the stairs! – all contributed to an unparalleled sense of calm.

This was, without a doubt, one of the very few blogging trips where I returned home feeling completely refreshed and re-energized, not needing *another* vacation to recover from the trip itself!

Another delightful surprise upon our arrival was the discovery of how generously our weekend at the Better Blog Retreat had been supported by some of our most cherished sponsors. Their contributions ranged from the incredible gift baskets awaiting us on our beds to the provision of amazing food and top-notch kitchen gear. Beyond the tangible, we were truly blown away by the sponsors who even came in person to spend time with us – chatting, cooking alongside us, and simply being part of our community for a day. Their generosity was truly inspiring and deeply appreciated.

A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to Anthology Destinations, Chobani, Deer Valley, DeLallo, Harry and David, High West Distillery, KitchenAid, OXO, Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery, Whole Foods, Wisconsin Cheese, and all our other wonderful sponsors for making the entire weekend so incredibly special and memorable. The Cherished Friendships: The Heart of the Retreat

Without a doubt, the absolute *best* part of the entire weekend was the precious opportunity to spend quality time with an incredible group of talented and inspiring individuals. Starting from the pink chevron and moving clockwise, I had the pleasure of connecting with Maria, Rachel, Heidi, Sandy, Kristen, Amanda, Jessica, Jenny, Dara, Lori, Gina, Kelley, and Lindsay.

I have often said that one of the most delightful and unexpected surprises of embarking on a blogging career has been the chance to meet so many incredible, talented, hard-working, gracious, and truly stellar bloggers from across the country. And even more profound is the privilege of calling them friends. We spent the weekend hanging out, cooking together, sharing hearty laughs, learning from each other, celebrating successes, sharing our hearts, offering encouragement, gazing at the falling snow, enjoying wine, indulging in nail buffing, enthusiastically photographing food, engaging in Jillian Michaels workouts, trying on pink lipstick, stuffing ourselves with brie, making parfaits, having late-night conversations, and simply reveling in life’s simple pleasures with this truly fantastic group. The bonds formed and strengthened during this retreat are something I will always cherish.

Finally, I want to extend mega props and my deepest gratitude to the two exceptional friends who were the thoughtful, hard-working, and absolutely knock-your-socks-off creators of this entire unforgettable event: Heidi and Maria. These two remarkable women literally poured their hearts, their invaluable time, and an incredible amount of energy into making this a memorable, relaxing, and deeply meaningful weekend for all of us. Girls, it was an immense gift, and I cannot thank you enough for your vision and dedication.

Delicious Greek Yogurt Parfait with fresh fruit, pistachios, and toasted coconut.

My New Favorite: Easy Greek Yogurt Parfaits

Alright, with all the wonderful memories of the retreat shared, let’s circle back to the food – specifically, one of my most delightful culinary takeaways from the weekend: this utterly beautiful and incredibly easy Greek yogurt parfait. It instantly became my new breakfast obsession, and I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you today.

For years, I’ve been a dedicated fan of Greek yogurt parfaits. However, it wasn’t until the fantastic team from Chobani joined us at the retreat and surprised us with a gorgeous, elaborate breakfast yogurt parfait bar (a truly fab entertaining idea, by the way!) that I truly grasped the vast array of sweet and savory ingredients I could be incorporating into my yogurt. My initial experiment with a smoked salmon and capers parfait was unexpectedly fantastic. But it was my very next combination – a vibrant mix of fresh fruit, crunchy pistachios, fragrant toasted coconut, nutrient-rich chia seeds, and a delicate drizzle of honey – that stole my heart and became my absolute favorite.

Naturally, I’ve been recreating this delightful parfait at home every morning since. It’s ridiculously simple to assemble, yet it’s something I genuinely look forward to each day. If you’re searching for a fresh and exciting way to elevate your Greek yogurt routine, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this combination a try. It’s a small, sweet indulgence that starts the day off right.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, filled with good food and great company!
